Who should use which
| Your situation | Better fit |
|---|---|
| You send a few invoices a month and a Steuerberater (or you) handles the rest | RechnungsJet |
| You want an English form and don't want another subscription or account | RechnungsJet |
| You need expense tracking, bank syncing, EÜR and ELSTER filing in one tool | Full accounting software (Lexware Office, or tools with an English interface) |
| You file monthly VAT returns and want them prepared automatically | Full accounting software |
| You must send structured e-invoices (XRechnung, ZUGFeRD) to business clients | Software that produces e-invoices; see the e-invoicing guide |
What RechnungsJet does
- English form; the invoice PDF uses standard German labels.
- VAT options: Kleinunternehmer (§19 UStG), 19% or 7% MwSt, EU reverse charge (with both VAT IDs and the required note), or no German VAT for business clients outside the EU.
- Every invoice carries your Steuernummer or VAT ID and the service date.
- PDF download straight after payment. €1.99 per invoice, one-time payment via Lemon Squeezy.
- No account, no subscription. Your invoice data is not stored.
What it does not do: bookkeeping, expense tracking, EÜR, VAT returns, ELSTER, or e-invoice formats.
What it costs
Plain arithmetic: 1 invoice a month is 12 × €1.99 = €23.88 a year; 3 a month is 36 × €1.99 = €71.64 a year. Compare that with the current plans on the accounting provider's own price page, and keep in mind that full software does far more than invoices.
A note on e-invoicing
Since 2025 businesses in Germany must be able to receive e-invoices, and sending them becomes mandatory for most B2B invoices in stages up to 2028. Kleinunternehmer are exempt from sending them. RechnungsJet produces PDF invoices, not e-invoice formats. Details: e-invoicing in Germany.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Lexoffice alternative in English?
Yes. If you only need invoices, RechnungsJet has an English form and produces a compliant German invoice PDF for €1.99, with no account or subscription. If you need full bookkeeping (expenses, EÜR, ELSTER filing), look at accounting software that offers an English interface; Lexware Office (formerly lexoffice) itself is German-language software.
Do I need accounting software as a Kleinunternehmer?
Not necessarily. Many Kleinunternehmer and Freiberufler only need compliant invoices and a simple record of income and expenses for their EÜR. Accounting software helps once you have many transactions, VAT returns, or want bank syncing.
Can I use RechnungsJet and a Steuerberater?
Yes. You create and send invoices with RechnungsJet and keep the PDFs; your Steuerberater handles your bookkeeping and tax returns as usual. Each invoice is a standard German PDF they can read.
Does RechnungsJet do bookkeeping or ELSTER?
No. RechnungsJet creates invoices only. It does not track expenses, prepare an EÜR, or file VAT returns or tax returns through ELSTER.
